WHEN six-year-old Muhammad Izzat Daniel received an invitation to join the Chelsea FC Elite Training Centre to train with them, it was almost a dream come true, not just for the pint size budding footballer but also for his father, Nor Hisham Mohamed Hashim.

Nor Hisham, 34, an engineer with a company in Oxford, is a firm supporter of Chelsea FC.

He had earlier taken Daniel to attend trial sessions at Chelsea training grounds in Cobham during an Easter break where Daniel emerged best player for the under sevens.

Daniel was asked to join further trials where he again excelled, impressing Chelsea coaches who sent him another invitation to join the Chelsea FC Elite Training Centre in Surrey.

This is the route taken by most professional footballers before they are picked to join the football academies of their clubs.

And judging from Daniel's previous performance on the football training grounds, the Chelsea FC Academy is just two easy steps away.

However, the training is in August. And today, the whole family is attending a graduation ceremony at Oxford University, where mother Khairul Faezah Md Yunos, 34, is receiving her PhD in Chemical Engineering. As she has finished her studies, the whole family will return to Malaysia next month.

"Daniel was very excited about the offer but it looks like he has to go back to Malaysia. I will treasure the invitation letter and hopefully there will be opportunities for him to develop his skills in Malaysia.

"From the age of two, Daniel loved kicking the ball around and we could see his skills and so we took him to join the Oxford under-seven team, where he played as a striker."

According to Nor Hisham, Daniel's coach in Oxford was impressed by his speed and his skills to dribble.

"I took him to the football school during the Easter break as a treat for him and did not really think that he would emerge best player out of 25 players. Only two were selected to join the advance team."
